How to edit variations on many Etsy listings at once

Variations are the part of a listing Etsy’s bulk tools do not reach. Sizes, colours, per-option prices and SKUs are edited one listing at a time in Shop Manager. For a shop with 80 shirts in 6 sizes, that is an afternoon. A template does it in one pass.

What Etsy’s bulk editor covers

Shop Manager’s editing options change titles, tags, descriptions, prices, custom options, production partners, renewal, processing profiles and shipping profiles across selected listings. Variations are not on the list: to add a size, change an option’s price or fix a SKU, you open each listing.

Variations in one listing

  • Up to two variation types per listing, such as Size and Colour, each with its options.
  • Each option, or each combination, can carry its own price, quantity, SKU and photo, and can be shown or hidden.
  • The price Etsy shows for the listing is the lowest option price.

The same grid on many listings: a template

  1. 1Build the grid once in a template: the variation types, the options, and a price and quantity per option. Or capture it from a listing that is already right.
  2. 2Leave “keep each listing’s own SKU” on, so each listing’s options use its SKU rather than the template’s.
  3. 3Select the listings, in Studio, a project or synced from the shop, and apply the template. Blank parts of the template leave the listing alone.
  4. 4Open a couple to check, then publish. The grids go to Etsy through the inventory API, with stock and SKUs as set.

Changing one option’s price everywhere

Edit the option in the template and apply it again to the same listings; the grid is replaced with the new one. For a change that is the same across all options, such as 10% up, use the bulk price change instead: it applies to every option and keeps the spread between sizes.

Clearing variations in bulk

Bulk edit has one direct variation action: delete all variations on the selected listings. The listing keeps its own price, quantity and SKU. Use it before applying a different template, or for listings that are moving to a single option.

Things to know

  • Applying a template sets the quantities to the template’s. Put the stock you want in the template before applying.
  • A listing synced from Etsy whose variations were never opened loads them on first open or on a sync. Copy and template wait for that.
  • Variations and attributes are different things: attributes describe the listing for filters, variations are what the buyer picks.

Questions

Can Etsy bulk edit variations?
No. Shop Manager edits variations one listing at a time. A template in a syncing editor applies one grid to many.
Do my SKUs change?
Not with “keep each listing’s own SKU” on, which is the default. The options use the listing’s SKU rather than the template’s.
Can I add one option to a grid every listing already has?
Not in one action yet. Add it in the template and apply it again, or open the listing and add the option there.
