How to generate Etsy tags and a title from a photo
This is the whole method, with screenshots from SpeedList. About two minutes per listing. The Free plan includes 10 generations a month, with no card.
What you need
- A product photo. A phone photo on a plain background is enough; the generator reads the first photo most closely.
- A free SpeedList account. Google sign-in, no card.
- Your Etsy shop connected, if you want to publish from here. You can also copy the tags into Etsy by hand.
Step 1: Add the photo
- 1Open Studio and press Create. A new, empty listing opens.
- 2Press Add photos and pick the photo, or drag it onto the page. Up to 20 per listing.
- 3Wait for the thumbnail. The first photo is the cover, and the one the generator reads most.
Step 2: Press Generate
Press Generate title. In a few seconds the title appears: the product phrase first, then the style, the occasion and the gift angle, under 140 characters. Press Generate tags for the 13 tags: each 20 characters or fewer, phrases buyers type, no repeats. Press Generate description if you want one. On the Free plan each press counts as one of your 10 generations.
Step 3: Read it like a buyer
- The title should start with what the item is, in the words a buyer would search. Move words if it does not.
- The 13 tags should cover the product, the style, the material, the occasion and the recipient. Replace any that do not fit your item; each tag is a text field.
- Add your own phrases if you know what sells, such as a size or a colour buyers ask for.
Step 4: Publish, or copy the tags into Etsy
With your shop connected, set the price, category and shipping profile (or apply a template that holds them) and press Publish: as a draft to check it on Etsy first, or live. Without a connected shop, copy the title and the tags and paste them into the listing form on Etsy; the tag field takes all 13 separated by commas.
For a listing that is already on Etsy
Connect the shop and its listings sync in. Open one, press Generate, and the new title and tags replace the old ones in SpeedList. Nothing changes on Etsy until you press Publish, so you can compare and keep the old version if you prefer it.
For many listings
Drop a folder of photos into Studio, or point it at a Google Drive folder, and each photo becomes a listing with its own title, tags and description, written in the background. A template fills in the category, shipping, variations and price for the whole batch, and one publish sends it to Etsy.
Questions
- Is it free?
- The Free plan includes 10 generations a month and one shop. Starter has 300 a month for $19, Pro 4,000 for $99.
- What photo works best?
- The product filling the frame, in focus, on a plain background. A mockup works too. Text in the photo, such as a slogan on a shirt, is read and used.
- Does it work for digital products?
- Yes. Upload the preview image, mark the listing as digital, attach the files, and the title and tags are written the same way.
- Can I keep my own tags and only fill the empty slots?
- Yes. Edit any tag, delete the ones you do not want, and add your own. Only what you publish reaches Etsy.
